12 November 2025, Metsamor — The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP), in collaboration with the Armenian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ANRA), carried out a large-scale emergency exercise simulating a loss of both internal and external power supply due to external factors. The scenario required the activation of emergency response systems at both institutions, the implementation of ANPP’s internal emergency plan, and the declaration of a “General Accident” signal in accordance with national emergency preparedness protocols.

.
As part of the drill, mobile diesel generators provided with support from the European Union were tested to ensure uninterrupted power supply to safety-important systems. ANRA specialists conducted an analysis of the potential progression of the simulated accident and possible release routes using the JRODOS decision-support system. Based on these assessments, ANRA’s Emergency Commission issued recommendations, including suggested evacuation directions for residents of potentially affected communities. The exercise provided an opportunity to validate procedures for transporting and deploying mobile diesel generators, connecting power cables, restoring backup power, and coordinating the work of various technical and regulatory teams. The drill further strengthened cooperation between ANPP and ANRA and contributed to enhancing Armenia’s overall nuclear emergency preparedness and response capabilities.
