In March 2007, Armenia invited the IAEA for an ISSAS mission in order to help the State to increase the effectiveness of the State System of Accounting for and Control of Nuclear Material (SSAC). Thus on 24-28 September the ANRA hosted the ISSAS mission.
General objectives of ISSAS Mission are:
• Evaluate the regulatory, administrative and technical systems of the Armenian SSAC
• Evaluate the performance of such systems in meeting the State’s nuclear non-proliferation obligations
• Identify areas of further co-operation
• Make recommendations on how to enhance the capability of the SSAC.
During the visit the mission experts met representatives of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of RA, Ministry of Energy of RA, State Customs Committee, National Center of Oncology, Institute of Metrology.
The ISSAC mission experts visited Armenian NPP, Radon radioactive waste storage facility and Yerevan Physics Institute.
The mission results will be incorporated in the ISSAS Mission Report.
