The IAEA Regional Workshop on Planning for Predisposal Radioactive Waste Management Activities was held in Yerevan, Armenia from 12 to 16 November 2018. The workshop was organized by the IAEA jointly with ANRA within the framework of the IAEA Technical Cooperation project RER9143 “Enhancing Radioactive Waste Management Capabilities”.
The purpose of the workshop was to to exchange experience and share challenges and good international practice related to the development of predisposal radioactive waste management plans for the safe, efficient and cost effective management of radioactive waste.
The workshop was attended by IAEA staff, international experts from UK, France and Serbia, as well as specialists from Albania, Belarus, Bulgaria, Armenia, Croatia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, and Ukraine.
The workshop consisted of lectures and group work. During the workshop IAEA staff and international experts introduced the process of development and presentation of a personal action plan, showing what they will do and when it will be done, to improve RWM planning in the organization or country, as well as identification of the key components and activities involved in the development of a Predisposal Radioactive Waste Management Plan.
